Cinnamon Apple Crisp Topping: The Perfect Crunch
There’s nothing quite like the satisfying crunch of a good oat topping. We’ve opted for old-fashioned rolled oats, mixed with almond flour, sliced almonds, honey (local if you can get it!), and unsalted butter.
If you’ve got almonds but no almond flour, don’t worry! You can easily make your own. Just pop about 1/4 cup of almonds at a time into a food processor, and pulse until you reach a flour-like consistency. Be sure to sift it, and if there are any larger pieces left, toss them back in the processor until you’ve got the perfect amount of almond flour.

Layer It Up: Apple and Oat Perfection
This recipe comes together quickly. Once your apples are sliced and arranged evenly, it’s time to layer on that delicious oat topping. Into the oven it goes, and in no time, your kitchen will be filled with the irresistible aroma of baked apples and cinnamon. Let it cool on a rack, but good luck waiting for that first scrumptious bite!

Cinnamon Apple Crisp
Ingredients
- 6 large Apples, cored, peeled, and sliced
- 1 Tbsp Lemon juice, fresh is best
- 1/3 cup real maple syrup
- 2 Tbsp 100% apple juice, sugar free is best
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground allspice
- 1 1/2 tsp fresh thyme leaves
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Topping Ingredients:
- 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1/3 cup almond flour
- 1/3 cup almonds, sliced
- 1/3 cup honey
- 3 Tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- Optional: Serve with
- Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
- Freshly whipped cream
Instructions
- Place top oven rack in its center position and pre-heat oven to 350°F.
- Grease an 8" x 8" baking dish and set aside.
- Place apples in a large non-reactive bowl and toss with fresh lemon juice. Add maple syrup, apple juice, cinnamon, allspice, thyme leaves, and salt. Toss to combine and set aside.
- Combine topping ingredients in a separate bowl and stir until oats are thoroughly coated and all ingredients are well combined. Set aside.
- Pour apple mixture into prepared baking dish and spread into an even layer. Spread the topping evenly across the top in a uniform layer, as well.
- Place into pre-heated oven and bake for 30 minutes. If the top layer is nicely browned, cover dish loosely with aluminum foil to prevent over-browning.
- Continue baking for another 15-20 minutes or until the apple crisp is nice and bubbling.
- Remove from oven and set aside to cool for 5-10 minutes.
- Serve warm with some vanilla bean iced cream or freshly whipped cream, if desired. Enjoy!
