Chocolate Chunk Walnut Cookies
A Double Dose of Decadence
This one’s for all the chocolate lovers out there nothing like Chocolate Chunk Walnut Cookies! We’re talking double chocolate and chunky walnuts in every bite. Now, I have to confess—chocolate isn’t really my thing (I know, shocking!). Give me a sugar cookie, peanut butter cookie, or an oatmeal-raisin any day. But my family? Oh, they’re obsessed with these, and if their rave reviews are anything to go by, these cookies are pure chocolatey bliss.
Simple Ingredients, Simple Recipe—Simply Delicious
You’ll be pleased to know that this recipe is as straightforward as it gets. Just gather up some all-purpose flour, sugar, eggs, vanilla, butter, shortening, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, walnuts, and—of course—two kinds of chocolate to satisfy even the most intense chocolate cravings.
I usually whip up this dough in my trusty stand mixer, but a hand mixer works just as well. And hey, if you’re in the mood to work out those arm muscles, you can always mix by hand too!

Pro Tips for the Perfect Cookie
Here’s a little insider info: I like my cookies to be soft and just barely golden. To achieve that perfect texture, I keep a close eye on the cookies and pull them out of the oven the moment I see a hint of gold around the edges. This is usually right before the full bake time is up, but it can vary depending on your oven.
Once out of the oven, I leave the cookies on the tray to cool. This way, they continue to bake slightly without turning hard. The result? A cookie with a perfectly golden bottom that’s still wonderfully soft and chewy.

Chocolate Chunk Walnut Cookies
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour do not pack
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 3 oz dark chocolate bar, chopped into bit size chunks
- 1 cup walnuts, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F
- Line a large or several average-sized baking trays with parchment paper, and set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl cream together the shortening, butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar. Once mixed and creamy add in the eggs and vanilla extract and mix until ingredients are well blended.
- In a small bowl combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix together thoroughly. Slowly add combined ingredients into your large mixing bowl, mix to thoroughly combine.
- Fold in chocolate chips, chopped chocolate chunks, and walnut until thoroughly combined.
- Using a large cookie scoop will make approximately 24 balls of dough. Place each onto your parchment paper-lined baking tray. Allow 2 inches in between each cookie dough ball. Optional: Using a flat bottomed glass, gently flatten rounds into thick discs.
- Place into a pre-heated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from oven and allow to cool, on the baking sheet, before removing cookies from baking sheet. Enjoy!
